Program in Chemical Engineering

Vanderbilt’s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering focuses research in the fields of materials, bioengineering and energy, which are synchronized with institutional strengths and areas of national and regional need. In their research endeavors faculty pursue novel applications of chemical engineering principles, both in their own research and as part of interdisciplinary teams.

Interdisciplinary research is important at Vanderbilt and can lead to “game changing” new ideas and discoveries. As a department, we collaborate outside the school with faculty in the natural sciences and medicine, and through research initiatives such as the the Vanderbilt Institute of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE), the Vanderbilt Institute for Integrative Bioengineering Research and Education (VIIBRE), and the Vanderbilt Institute of Chemical Biology (VICB).
